In Digital Studios our first project was to make a typography portrait of ourselves using only text. I chose the song "Don't Stop Believing" by Journey because it is my favorite song. I had a lot of fun with this project and some of my friends have already mentioned how they want me to do a portrait of them.

Everything is finished! Since I have been so stressed over not only art projects and school work I have not kept up with my blog. I am in the process of getting all of my pictures I took together to present to you guys. My next project is having to go outside on the Lyon College nature trail. Materials I am using for my project include: plaster, cardboard, tape, vaseline, tape, xacto knife, broken piece of tile, and pebbles. This project is SO MESSY. 

purpose??

This project is to stand for not leaving a trace in nature. "Leave no trace" is a movement that means keeping nature the way it is. The space I have chosen for my project is the man-made social path that leads down to the out door class room. This path is not apart of the original trail design which goes against "leave no trace". I am making plaster feet to represent the marks we have made in nature and to encourage my audience to only use this social path and not to make new ones.

I've been stuck up.

what have I been up to? 

I've been in a sticky situation for the past 3weeks. In the Mabee-Simpson Library at Lyon College, I have been working on my project "The Light" on the top floor in the hallway with the study rooms. I am so proud of this project, it turned out great! BUT I NEVER WANT TO SEE ANOTHER STICKY NOTE AGIAIN :P !! There is a little under 3,000 sticky notes in this hallway, which took what it felt like forever to do. I'm sorry I did not film this project, my next project will be filmed i promise! 

what does it mean?

"The Light" can mean whatever it is you want it to mean. It could be a goal to be reached, heaven, or maybe even fast forwarding of time. My intent of this project is to let my audience let it represent what they want it to mean to them. My inspiration for this project was myself and finding new ways to cope with stress and other bumps in the road and reaching "The Light".

Installation Complete

FINALLY! My cut paper project is installed! I absolutely love it! The picture on the left is from the outside looking in, and the picture on the right is from the inside looking out. Please take time to stop by the Small Chapel and look at it, it looks way better in person.

Tatted Up FINALLY finished

Finally!!! I am done with my project that took me about 9 hours to complete. This tall piece of paper is like my baby I was so scared I was going to rip it. There are a few mess up spots in it but I am very happy of how it turned out. I recorded myself completing this project, I hope you like it.

Paper Dresses by Jum Nakao

I stumbled upon this and thought it was extremely AWESOME.


Jum Nakao uses paper conceptually in his work for its impermanence. Watch as his gorgeous paper dresses walk the runway and are destroyed in front of the crowd. Hours of work thrown away in front of a shocked audience to remind them that there are more important things than what we see at first sight. Besides making you consider permanence and what is truly valuable, this video also makes one consider and appreciate the amazing usefulness of the laser cutter, which cut his work time on this collection to only 700 hours. (making the rounds today on Upon A Fold, Boing Boing, and Neatarama, but worth mentioning here too, nonetheless.)

Mini me

I recorded myself cutting out my project "Tatted Up". This actually took me 1 hour and 45 minutes to complete. The parts that you see me highlight are spaces that I need to fix when creating the actually final project. If this paper is only 6 x 20 inches imagine how long it is going to cut out a 3 x 10 foot piece of paper. This is the miniature version because tomorrow our class will show Rev. Nancy McSpadden all of our projects to get approved. Once approved I can then trace my image on to the 3 x 10 foot piece of paper. I have saved the sketch I made on the computer so it will be easier to sketch when projected through the computer on to the wall. Tatted Up

"Tatted Up"

The picture above is my final sketch for my project. This paper about is 6 x 20 inches and I will transfer this image on to this special paper (I have no idea what it is called) that is about the same size. Once transferred over I will practice cutting out with an X-acto knife to see how my image looks. When I figure out how I want the smaller image to look I will then transfer this image on to 3 x 10 feet piece of "special paper" and start cutting out my final project. I will post more pictures to show my progress on what I am doing and I will discuss issues I am having with having to just use the X-acto knife. This shall be fun and interesting.

Help me decide :)

          The project for 3D Design: Installation Art is to create a 3ft x 10ft paper (vertical or horizontal) which has religious/spiritual meaning that will be hung up in Brown Chapel (the small chapel). On this paper I am having to only cut out my design (no paints just an xacto knife & scissors). This is definitely going to be a challenge for me seeing how I have never done a project like this before.  


          At first I was thinking of making shapes into one image. I really enjoy the quatrefoil (I have drawn one below) so this symbol will DEFINITELY will be in my project somehow. Dustyn Bork, my professor, wanted me to put a meaning behind my work so now I am deciding what message I want to give my audience. You would think this would come easy to someone, but for me its not. I'm not a "churchy" person, and I do not mean to offend anyone by saying that.

          The verse I have chosen is: "As for the one who is weak in faith welcome him, but not to quarrel over opinions" -- Romans 14:1. This verse really connects with me because I feel like as a "Christian"(or whatever else) you are not suppose to judge others in what they believe and in how they believe. Accept how individuals are including: what they look like, who they hang out with, what they practice, etc.

          This was my first idea of my sketch of what I wanted to do.... (excuse the doodles)

          At first I thought that this was a great idea. But then I came to realize, during the discussion that went on in class, that what I drew didn't convey the message I wanted it to. After talking with classmates I have gotten more ideas and now I believe I am on the right track. Here are notes after talking in class today...

          I am going to sketch out my ideas and put them up here as soon as I get time. I wanted to blog about my thoughts while they were fresh on my mind. Comment on here please and give me feedback and or ideas of what YOU would like me to do.

This is my fourth face I had to paint. I was mad my video didn't work at the very beginning but I got most of it :) Enjoy :)

Copy Cat

The next project in painting is the Artist Copies. I have chosen Irises, a painting by Vincent van Gogh. In this project I have to map out a grid on the picture itself and on my board which I will be painting on. This is going to be a major test for me because I am going to have to push myself to be diciplined and look at every little square to hopefully have a masterpiece like Van Gogh.

Hopefully mine will look like the above picture when it is finished.



Do the opposite

I thought it would be neat to record myself painting and speed it up. I am painting my apple green and my pepper red because in this step I had to paint the opposite color. Hope you like the song :)

Ok. Lets get something straight. I AM NOT A PAINTER. I like digital art. I try my best with everything I do but this is driving me insane. The still life fruit exercise makes me want to cry. All the other paintings look amazing, I know mine doesn't but I am still trying. When we critique these I will probably be an emotional wreck cause you should see what my painting skills are being compared to. GRRRR i'm frustrated because my pears STILL have top hats as stems!!!
